[This note is slightly crumpled around the edges.]
I don't play well with loss. I think I've written this before, somewhere. Not here. Doesn't matter, I guess, but the point still stands.
Guess it's my fault for letting myself get close, for playing this out like a vacation. I knew from the start it wasn't going to be a longterm, but it was a chance to do something different and not worry about Vanguard business and whatever else we've got brewing out there. And I'm sure there's something brewing out there. Ikora won't say, but there's something that's been on her mind and that saying about actions speaking louder than words? That's true.
Where was I? Right. Loss. Things went from quiet to panic in a hot two seconds. Just like that, I had to tackle the thought that I wasn't going to see two of my favorite troublemakers anymore. And that hit hard.
Jon, he just vanished. How do you figure? Between the creepy messages that screwed up my tablet's backlog and him not being in his usual hole- and then there's just this feeling you get, you know? Next thing I know, I see a falling star.
There is no brushing off that kind of impact from that kind of height. I should know, I've broken legs leaping across gaps less than half that. And yet, somehow? Tony Stark survived. A mess, but in one piece. And as me and Catra pried him out of that mangled armor...
I've told myself I wouldn't let anything happen to these people. So long as I'm here, this city's my Last City. When we go home...
Okay Cayde, pull yourself together. What happened to optimism? It's fine. We're good. Seize each day- there's a quote or something, isn't there? And when it seems like there's nothing else, I've always got my Queen.
